My name is Richard Carter, and I am running for Congress in Nebraska's Second District. I am very excited (and a little nervous) to be live blogging here; I have posted here a few times, but this is my first live blog, so please be patient if I take long responding. I'll be around for about an hour, and will come back to answer as many other questions as possible.
UPDATE: Link to our ActBlue page.
First, a little about myself. I spent 7 years in active duty in the Air Force, flying missions all over the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan, and I currently serve in the Air Force Reserve. During active duty, I earned my Master's Degree in Economics, and I am currently teaching economics at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.
I am planning on doing a live blog every Sunday for a few weeks, and today I want to focus on military issues.
I believe that we need to leave Iraq now. Our troops have accomplished every mission they were given--we have deposed a dictator, assured that there were no weapons of mass destruction, helped the Iraqi people write a constitution and elect their own government. Its time to bring them home. We need to refocus our efforts on the real threats that are facing us.
We also need to do a better job of taking care of our veterans. We need to do a better job of fighting for those who have been fighting for us. We have not kept our word to our veterans with assistance on healthcare or education.
